What Is ACSR Cable?

Dec. 04, 2018

ACSR is short for Aluminium conductor steel-reinforced. It is a sort of high-capacity, high-strength stranded conductor typically utilized in Overhead Insulated Cable. The outside strands are high-purity aluminium, selected because of its great conductivity, low weight and very low price. The middle strand is steel for extra power to help support the weight of this ACSR Cable, Steel is greater strength than aluminum that allows for enhanced mechanical pressure to be implemented on the conductor. Steel has lower elastic and inelastic deformation (permanent elongation) because of mechanical loading (e.g. end and ice hockey ) in addition to a reduced coefficient of thermal expansion under loading. These properties permit ACSR to sag less than all-aluminium conductors. Per the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as well as also The CSA Group (previously the Canadian Standards Association or CSA) naming convention, ACSR is advised A1/S1A.

This Anti-corrosion ACSR Cable depends upon the electrical strength of the aluminum; it's just reinforced from the steel. As a result of this, its constant operating temperature is limited to 75 °C (167 °F), the temperatures where aluminium starts to anneal and soften over time. Cable which depends completely on the steel for durability, and can be used in temperatures around 250 °C (480 °F), is known as aluminium-conductor steel-supported (ACSS).
